Overview
Naber is a hypothetical application that helps neighbors connect, ask & answer questions, all in real time. This idea came about by observing our daily interactions with the people around us and realizing they were very superficial or non existent. The idea was to create a platform where neighbors could initiate conversation by providing relevant information.
Role
User Reaserch & User Interface
Research
Interviewed 10 students from a wide range of majors and 10 professionals working and living within the metropolitan area. From these interviews we were able to get a better understanding on where the practical needs of each would fit in the app. Some highlights from the research included a sorting system based on how quickly they needed an answer as well as a way to have locals answer questions and not someone who is not in a specific area.
A quick google search would only provide general information but nothing specific to their needs. Close friends might have more relevant information but not always things relating to a specific topic or geographical location. We were able to validate our claim that people wanted to receive relevant information from their community. From this information we were able to develop 3 personas and track their journey.
App Introduction
Most important part of the verification process to deter fake profiles and have more accurate information. There is a two step verification process. The firsts is by social media login; and the second is through cell phone number. After the verification there is a category selection to start your relevant feed.
Main App Features
The main page is a feed sorted by relevance of preferred topics selected upon registration. Secondary filtering is based on timeliness of questions. The third way information is filtered is by distance to the post. If you’re out of range that question will not be displayed.
Final Design
The final designs show the process of creating your account, asking a question, and responding to a neighbor. The process has been simplified by allowing all interactions to happen on one screen. This was to keep users asking, answering, reviewing and encouraging more interaction within the community of neighbors.
Reflection
One of the challenges encountered was the incentive to respond and review others comments. One thing to consider in the future is a ranking system to show how helpful a neighbor is. This will encourage interactions but also make someone feel more comfortable receiving an answer from a reputable source.
